Men's Basketball Finalizes Coaching Staff

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Indiana University South Bend men's basketball coach Scott Cooper has added Doug Barnbrook and O'Brien Hobbs to his bench for the 2017-18 season.

Barnbrook brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to IU South Bend after having served as the head junior varsity coach and varsity assistant at John Adams High School from 2007-17. Prior to that, Barnbrook led the freshman at Adams from 2003-2007.

Under his guidance, Adams captured four sectional championships with the latest coming in 2017 and two Northern Indiana Conference titles in 2013 and 2017.

Coach Barnbrook graduated from Ball State University with a degree in secondary education.

"We are excited to have Doug join our staff", stated Cooper. "He is far and away the most experienced assistant coach we have had here in a long time.  His coaching experience as both a head and assistant coach in a quality program at South Bend Adams should be huge benefit to our program.  He has been a fixture in the local high school basketball community for well over a decade, and we think he can do a lot for our local recruiting."

O'Brien "OB" Hobbs will also be joining Coach Cooper's staff after finishing his playing career at Holy Cross College, a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). Hobbs spent three years at HCC and was a team captain during his final season. Prior to Holy Cross, Hobbs attended Cincinnati State Community College where he help guide them to a No. 1 national ranking and eventual fifth place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II national tournament in 2014.

Hobbs finished his career with 1,282 points and 352 assists.

Coach Hobbs graduated from Holy Cross College with a degree in business.

"'OB' is another good get for our program," said Cooper. "He is a young, energetic, guy with a lot of natural leadership ability.  He fits the mold of many of our past assistant coaches that have been good here.  His experience playing in two very well coached programs in college and his familiarity with what it takes to be successful in the CCAC will be a big boost to us in recruiting, on the court, and in the classroom."

IU South Bend will open its 2017-18 campaign on October 28th at home against Andrews University. For more information on IU South Bend men's basketball visit www.iusbtitans.com
