SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Injuries left the Indiana University South Bend women's basketball team with just eight players as they welcomed Roosevelt University to the Student Activities Center on Saturday afternoon. The Titans led for more than 25 minutes before eventually falling to the Lakers 50-47 to drop their third straight contest.
For the first two quarters IU South Bend answered every time Roosevelt began to close the gap as the Titans led by as many as nine points on multiple occasions. However, the Lakers finished the final three minutes of the half with a 7-0 run to trail the Titans by just one heading into the intermission.
It wasn't until the 3:44 mark in the third quarter when the Titans relinquished their lead. From that point on IU South Bend was playing from behind, trailing by as many as seven points.
A pair of free throws from Baleigh Carithers (FR/Middlebury, Ind.) with 36 seconds on the clock got the Titans within one. After two free throws from the Lakers IU South Bend trailed by three with one last chance to tie the game. Lucy Prensal got off a contested three but could not get it to go down as the Titans dropped their third straight contest.
Paige Avery (JR/Mishawaka, Ind.) and Taylor Wesley (FR/South Bend, Indiana) each finished with 10 points, respectively. Wesley had a team-high seven boards while Brooke Smith (FR/Niles, Mich.) added nine points and five rebounds.
Paige Gallimore netted a game-high 23 points for the Lakers.
The Titans will return to action a week from Saturday as they travel to Saint Ambrose.
