Katie Hacker (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central HS) was honored before the game for reaching the 1,000 point mark this past weekend, then tallied 13 of her game-high 22 points before the half, and Kayla George (Peru, IN/Maconaquah HS) and Courtney Simpson (Nappanee, IN/NorthWood HS) added 13 and ten, respectively as IU South Bend (15-5/3-1 CCAC) rolled to a 65-41 win over IU Northwest.

Early in the contest, both teams struggled to score, as the Titans scored their first points of the contest nearly four minutes in on a pair of Betsy Grogan (Battle Ground, IN/West Lafayette Harrison HS) free throws and didn't connect on their first field goal until the five minute mark when Hacker dropped in a layup to make the score 7-4 in favor of the RedHawks.

From there, neither team scored over the next 4:38 until Simpson scored on a fast break to bring the Titans within one. After the teams traded buckets, George dropped in the first of her three triples on the night, bringing the game tied at 11 - the only deadlock of the contest. After a miss by IU Northwest on the ensuing possession, Whitney Cole (North Judson, IN/North Judson HS [St. Joseph's College (IN)]) added a three of her own to give the Titans a lead they would extend to a 33-20 edge by closing the first half on a 21-9 spurt.

The second half was another offensive struggle for both sides, as IU Northwest shot just 5-for-29 (17.2%) from the floor in the period, while the Titans were slightly better at 9-of-27, good for 33%. With their solid defense, IU South Bend extended their advantage throughout the closing stanza, with the final margin of 24 being their largest advantage of the contest.

Hacker's 22 points led all scorers and brought her career total to 1,033 - just two points shy of matching Stephanie Campbell's (2002-2006) mark of 1,035 for 10th all-time at IU South Bend. Grogan also added nine points for the Titans, while Leah Meyer (Goshen, IN/Northridge HS) led IU South Bend with nine rebounds.

Sharon Houston led IU Northwest with 18 points - six shy of her season average - and all players with 11 rebounds - three off her average - but was held to just 8-of-18 shooting and was only able to collect two caroms on the offensive end.

The Titans return to CCAC play on Saturday, when they host the Saints of St. Francis (IL) in the first half of a women's-men's doubleheader. During halftime of the contest, IU South Bend will recognize the Titan alumni - former players and coaches - as they are hosting Alumni Day. Tip off is set for 12:00 noon.
