SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Welcoming the No. 1 team in the nation to the Student Activities Center on Wednesday night, the Indiana University South Bend women's basketball team hung tough for three quarters before falling 65-45 to the University of St. Francis Fighting Saints.
Taylor Wesley (FR/South Bend, Indiana) paced the Titans offense with 14 points while Sarah Rogain added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Brianna Blackwell (JR/Whiting, Indiana) drained a triple to give the Titans a five-point advantage with 1:29 left in the opening frame. However, the Fighting Saints scored five unanswered points to close out the quarter to even the score at 15-all.
The final 2:25 of the second quarter ended just like the first with the Fighting Saints scoring the final six points to take a 10-point lead into the intermission.
Less than two minutes into the third quarter, IU South Bend slashed its deficit to just five point after Vicki Gard (FR/Schererville, Indiana) hit a three to open the second half scoring followed by a Sarah Rogain put-back. The Fighting Saints then went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead back to 13 points.
The Titans return to action on Saturday as they travel to Robert Morris University Illinois. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on http://www.eaglesportsnetwork.com/
