SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A dismal shooting night for the Indiana University South Bend women's basketball team led to a 77-54 loss to cross-town rival Holy Cross College on Wednesday evening. The Titans shot just 30 percent from the field and 20 percent from long distance. On the other hand, the Saints shot 47 percent from both the field and from 3-point range.
Paige Avery (JR/Mishawaka, Indiana) and Loren Vukovits (SO/ North Liberty, Indiana) handled the bulk of the Titans scoring as both finished with 15 points. Vicki Gard (FR/Schererville, Indiana) added nine points while Vukovits pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
After a rough first quarter in which the Titans scored just seven points, IU South Bend rallied back, opening the second frame on a 7-0 run cutting the HCC lead to just five points. The Saints extended their lead to 11 points before halftime.
After the break the Titans defense had no answer for the Saints offense as HCC began the third quarter on a 9-0 run to lengthen its lead to 20 points and never look back.
The loss drops the Titans to 8-15 overall and 4-10 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
IU South Bend will continue CCAC play on Saturday as they host Trinity International University. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
