SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Titans pushed the nation's 15th ranked team to the brink on Saturday afternoon as the Titans fell to Purdue University Northwest 75-73 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Paige Avery (JR/Mishawaka, Indiana) paced the Titans offense scoring 20 points to go along with six assists.
Three other Titans finished in double-figures as Brianna Blackwell (JR/Whiting, Indiana) netted 14 while Vicki Gard (FR/Schererville, Indiana) and Loren Vukovits (SO/ North Liberty, Indiana) each chipped in with 12 points, respectively.
IU South Bend set the tone early as they jumped out to a 16-4 lead forcing PNW to call a 30-second timeout. The Titans kept their foot on the gas as they ended the first frame with a 20-12 lead.
Purdue Northwest saw its first lead of the game at the 3:18 mark in the second quarter on a layup from Ellie Michalski. The Pride and Titans traded baskets to close out the frame with PNW taking a slim 37-35 advantage going into halftime.
The second half was a battle. When it looked as if PNW was going to pull away the Titans answered with big shots. Trailing by seven with 1:35 to go, Blackwell drained a huge three right in front of the Titans bench to close gap to four points.
With time running out, the Titans had to foul. Avery scored the final four points of the game for the Titans but it was too little too late as the clock hit zero.
With just four games remaining, the Titans fall to 9-17 and 5-12 in CCAC action.
The Titans will continue CCAC action on Wednesday as they host Calumet College of St. Joseph. In the last meeting on January 3 the Titans defeated the Crimson Wave 64-46 in Whiting. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. and the game will stream live on https://portal.stretchinternet.com/rrsn/.
