SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Five Titans finished in double-figures on Saturday as the Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team defeated Purdue University Northwest 75-70 in front of the home crowd. The Titans shot 53 percent from the field while holding the Pride to 39 percent shooting.
For the first 20 minutes of action, the Titans outplayed the Pride and shot the ball extremely well. Leading by as many as 16 points, IU South Bend went into the intermission with a 10-point lead as PNW went on a 10-4 run over the last three minutes.
In the second half things got a little sloppy on the offensive end for the Titans. Seven minutes into the period, the Pride had sliced the Titan lead to five points.
Things got interesting down the stretch when the Pride got within one point but the Titans answered with six straight points to extend their lead back to seven with 5:20 left to play.
Mike Williams converted an IU South Bend turnover into two points with 2:26 to play, once again pulling PNW back to within a point of the Titan lead. Just as the Titans did previously, they answered the PNW attack with 5-0 run to boost their lead. PNW ran out of gas down the stretch as the Titans sealed their 12th victory of the season snapping a five-game losing streak.
Myluv Sutton (SO/Fort Wayne, Indiana) and T.J. Benner (JR/Mishawaka, Indiana) finished with 12 points while Alex Harmon (FR/Wabash, Indiana) notched his second straight double-digit effort with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Titans will continue CCAC action on Wednesday as they host Calumet College of St. Joseph. The Titans look to avenge a 92-84 loss to the Crimson Wave back on January 3. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will stream live on https://portal.stretchinternet.com/rrsn/.
