South Bend, IN - The Titans men's basketball team lost to Olivet Nazarene University 84-70 on Tuesday night at the Student Activities Center on the campus of IU South Bend. With the loss the Titans drop to 6-18 overall and 2-4 in the CCAC.
Ben Werner paced the Titans by registering a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Werner hit on 6-of-12 shots and connected on 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. Kyle Heatherly continues to heat up from long range pouring in 17 points for IU South Bend. Teammate Mark Comparato chipped in with 12 points to round out the scoring for the Titans.
Rashard Mitchell and Tyler Wallenfang scored 17 points apiece to pace the Tigers. Freshman Jordan Harks was very impressive as he scored 15 points and hauled down 13 boards.
The Tigers led 51-28 going into intermission and made it difficult for the Titans to get back into the game. ONU controlled the glass outrebounding the Titans 41-24. In addition, the Tigers shot an impressive 50% from the field by connecting on 29-of-58 shots which included 9-of-22 from behind the arc.
The Titans will be back in action on February 10th when they travel to Chicago to take on Robert Morris. That game will be played at the Gentile Center on Loyola University's Lakefront Campus. Tip off is set for 8:00 PM EST.
Pink Zone: The contest between the Tigers and Titans was a part of the WBCA Pink Zone initiative - involving more than 600 schools nationwide - in an effort to promote breast cancer awareness. All proceeds from the game will go to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
