Olivet Nazarene connected on 21 three point attempts and held a 63-34 lead at the half as they downed IU South Bend (19-10/5-5 CCAC) 114-74 Saturday afternoon. The Titans struggled from the floor for much of the contest, shooting just 36% from the floor and converting only 7-of-28 from behind the three point arc.
Kayla George (Peru, IN/Maconaquah HS) led the TItans with 14 points, shooting 4-of-7 from the outside, while Betsy Grogan (Battle Ground, IN/West Lafayette Harrison HS) and Ashley Hummer (South Bend, IN/Mishawaka Marian HS) each chipped in with 11.
From the opening tap, the Tigers controlled the contest, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the opening minute on a pair of Lexie Heinold triples, and they simply pulled away from there. Midway through the opening period, ONU already found themselves on pace for more than 120 points, but they didn't stop there and stretched out their 29-point halftime lead.
Out of the break, the Titans played much better, getting baskets early from Grogan and Katie Hacker (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central HS), eventually pulling the margin back to 21, but the Tiger were simply too much, as they pulled away late in the contest for the final margin.
Becca Hoefler (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso HS) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds for IU South Bend, while Hacker corralled seven.
Simone Coburn led all players - and five Tigers in double figures - with 16 points.
The Titans now turn their attention to the CCAC Tournament, where they will open play with a home contest against Robert Morris on Tuesday, March 2. IU South Bend swept both regular season contests with the Eagles. Tip off is set for 7:00 PM.
