The CCAC Men's Basketball Division I regular season is complete and the tournament bracket is set. The top two teams, Robert Morris University and Olivet Nazarene University, will both have first-round byes, while the other four teams will battle in quarterfinal action on Tuesday night. With a 9-1 conference record, Robert Morris won the CCAC Regular-Season Championship.
In the first game on Tuesday, No. 5 Indiana University-South Bend (6-23) will travel to No. 4 St. Francis University (8-20) for a 7 p.m. CST game. St. Francis finished the conference schedule with a 4-6 record to finish fourth, while IUSB was 2-8 for fifth place. St. Francis swept the regular-season series against Indiana-South Bend, with two six-point victories. The Saints won 75-69, on January 30, and 73-69, on February 24. IUSB is led by junior Ben Werner (Goshen, IN) who ranks third in scoring at 15.6 points per game and first in rebounding at 9.7 boards per game. St. Francis' top scorer is junior Greg Leavell (Farmington Hills, MI) who averages 10.4 points per game.
The winner of this game will travel to No. 1 Robert Morris (18-9) on Thursday. The Eagles are ranked No. 17 in the nation and have won seven straight games. The Eagles are leading the league in scoring at 79.9 points per game. They also lead in field goal percentage, shooting 47.1 percent as a team. Robert Morris has the CCAC's top two leading scorers in seniors Robert Jones (Fort Pierce, FL) and Billy Rush (Dolton, IL). Jones leads the league, averaging 18.5 points per game and ranks third in rebounding with his 7.3 rebounds per game average. Rush is second in scoring at 16.3 points per game, and second in rebounding at 7.7 boards per game.
In other action on Tuesday, No. 6 Holy Cross (3-27) will play at No. 3 St. Xavier University (20-9). St. Xavier finished in third place with a 7-3 conference record and received three votes in the latest NAIA National poll. Holy Cross, in its first year in the conference, was unable to get a win and finished 0-10. St. Xavier beat Holy Cross twice earlier in the season. The Cougars won 94-74 on Nov. 3, and 80-65 on Dec. 2. Sophomore Justin Breveard (South Bend, IN) leads Holy Cross with a 14.2 points per game average which is fourth best in the CCAC. His assist average of 4.2 per game ranks second. Senior Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, IL) leads St. Xavier with a 10.1 points per game average.
No. 2 seed Olivet Nazarene will host the winner of this game on Thursday. The Tigers are ranked No. 21 in the nation. They finished in second place with an 8-2 record. They are the only team to defeat Robert Morris in conference play. Senior Josh Bronke (Normal, IL) averages 11.4 points which ranks fifth in the league and leads the Tigers. Freshman Jordan Harks (Lombard, IL) is the team's best rebounder at 6.6 per game which is the league's fifth best mark. Sophomore Antonio Marshall (Bowling Green, IN) is the league's best assist man, averaging 4.6 per game.
