(Joliet, IL) The IU South Bend men's basketball team snapped an eight game skid and defeated the University of St. Francis 81-65 in the CCAC Tournament Quarterfinals. With the victory the Titans improve to 8-22 overall and the Fighting Saints finish the 2009-10 campaign at 8-21.
IU South Bend had a well-balanced offensive attack on the night registering four players in double figures. Kyle Heatherly (Mishawaka H.S.) scored a team-high 22 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 5 assists on the night. Ben Werner (Fairfield H.S.) was a force in the middle once again as he pumped in 18 points and pulled down 8 boards in the victory. Teammates Josh Stoops and Quinn Brooks chipped in with 14 and 10 points, respectively. The most impressive stat line of the night came from Terry Hill. THill was inserted into the starting line-up and exploded for the Titans pulling down 12 rebounds (8 offensive), and registering three steals and three blocks in just 26 minutes of action.
The Titans sizzled the nets and had one of their best shooting nights of the season. As a team the Titans hit on 30-of-59 shots, including 7-14 from behind the arc.
The Fighting Saints were led by Andrew Fair who pumped in a game-high 23 points. Greg Leavell scored 18 points in the loss.
Pat Sullivan concluded his outstanding coaching career at University of St. Francis with a final coaching record of 506-505 over 34 seasons. Congrats Coach Sullivan on a great career.
IU South Bend will continue tournament action in the semi-final round as they travel to Robert Morris University on Thursday night to take on the Eagles. The game will be played at Loyola University and will tip-off at 7:00 CST.
