Chicago, IL- The IU South Bend men's basketball team lost to Robert Morris University 67-54 in CCAC Tournament semifinal action on Thursday night. The Titans finish the 2009-10 campaign with a record of 8-23 overall and 2-8 in the CCAC. Robert Morris, who won the CCAC regular season championship, improves to 19-9 overall and is currently ranked #14 in NAIA Division I men's basketball. The Eagles will take on St. Xavier University on Saturday night for the CCAC Tournament Championship.
The Titans battled the Eagles tough in the first half jumping out to a 23-13 lead at the 7:40 mark as Ben Werner connected on a layup. However, the Titan's offense stalled midway thru the first half as the Eagles went on a 13-2 run taking a 30-25 lead into halftime. RMU came out firing in the second half as they extended their lead to 56-40 with just over five minutes to go. The Eagles finished the contest connecting on 25-55 shots for 45.5%. However, the Eagles connected on just 3-of-16 shots from behind the arc.
Kyle Heatherly scored a team-high 14 points for the Titans as he connected on 5-of-14 shots on the night. Ben Werner pumped in 13 points and pulled down 7 boards. He also dished out a team-high five assists for IU South Bend. Josh Stoops turned in his best game of the season registering a double-double for the Titans. Stoops poured in 10 points and pulled down a game high 12 rebounds.
RMU registered three players in double figures. Leading the way for the Eagles was Jacolby Hardiman who scored a game-high 17 points. Teammates Robert Jones and Ricardo Laing scored 14 and 12 points respectively.
