South Bend, IN- Junior power forward Ben Werner (Fairfield HS, New Paris, IN) and senior point guard Mark Comparato (Indianapolis, IN) were named first team All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) on Sunday afternoon. Teammates Terry Hill (Indianapolis, IN) and Kyle Heatherly (Mishawaka HS, Mishawaka, IN) earned Honorable Mention honors.
Werner continues to add hardware to his trophy case for his efforts on the basketball court. He has been named a first team selection for the third consecutive year. Werner finished third overall in voting for Player of the Year honors in the CCAC. Werner broke the single season and career records for most rebounds as a member of the Titan Basketball program this season. He registered 296 rebounds on the season and stands at 779 in his career.
In conference play, Werner averaged 16.6 points and 12.6 rebounds a game. He connected on 54-of-124 shots for an impressive 43.5% from the field. On three different occasions in conference play, Werner pulled down 17 boards and registered his highest output netting 26 points on February 24th.
Sharp-shooting point guard Mark Comparato accompanied Werner as a first team selection. Known for his long range jumper from behind the arc, MC averaged 8.8 points a game and shot an impressive 37.3 percent from 3-point land connecting on 25-of-67 shots. On two different occasions, MC netted 16 points in conference action.
Shooting guard Kyle Heatherly made an immediate impact once inserted into the starting line-up. He averaged 10 points a contest for the Titans in conference competition. His highest offensive output came against Olivet Nazarene on February 2nd where he netted 17 points. He shot an impressive 20-26 from the charity stripe in conference play.
Terry Hill provides a lot of spark off the bench for the Titans. Hill averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds a contest. He hit on 31-of-71 shots during conference play where the Titans finished 2-8. Hill is known for his tenacious defense and often draws the assignment of guarding the best offensive player. On January 23rd Hill scored 17 points against St. Xavier University.
Billy Rush and Robert Jones from Robert Morris University were named Co-Players of the Year in the CCAC. Werner finished third in the balloting. Jordan Harks of ONU earned Freshman Of The Year while Pat Sullivan of USF was tabbed as Coach Of The Year.
