South Bend, IN - Indiana University South Bend Executive Director of Athletics and Activities Gary Demski announced Thursday that Taylor University assistant coach Chad Tapp has been named the new head men's basketball coach at IU South Bend. He served as head assistant coach at Taylor University for the past six seasons. During his tenure at Taylor the Trojans captured three Mid-Central Collegiate Conference basketball championships.
"It is with great excitement that I am announcing the appointment of Chad Tapp as our new head men's basketball coach at IU South Bend," Demski said. "Coach Tapp has an impressive coaching resume and will do an outstanding job for us. He has learned from some of the best coaches such as Paul Patterson (Taylor University head coach, 31 years) and legendary Don Meyer. He will be a great influence on the student-athletes in our program and assist them as they make every effort to achieve their goals. I urge the IU South Bend campus and the Michiana community to join me in welcoming Coach Tapp and his wife to the Titan Family."
Tapp's collegiate career began at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee. After one season, he transferred to Shawnee Community College in Ullin, Illinois where he was an All-Region nominee, selected to the Illinois Junior College North vs. South All-Star Game, as well as the Illinois vs. Missouri Junior College All-Star Game.
From there, Tapp moved on to Taylor University where he was a member of the 2003-2004 NAIA National Tournament team that was ranked as high as number two in the country. That is one of three conference championships and three national tournament appearances Tapp has been a part of at Taylor, including a Sweet 16 appearance at the NAIA National Tournament in 2006.
Tapp graduated from Taylor in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. He completed his Master's degree in sports management in 2008.
