South Bend, IN- Former South Bend St. Joseph's basketball standout Marcus Johnson, a 6'1" guard from UMass Lowell, is transferring to IU South Bend to continue his academic and athletic career for the 2010-2011 season. He will play for first year head coach Chad Tapp.  Johnson will have two year of eligibility remaining.

This year at UMass Lowell, Johnson played in 27 games and averaged 10 minutes for the River Hawks. He scored a total of 74 points and shot a stellar 49% from the field and 75% from the charity stripe. The Red Hawks finished 20-12 overall this season.
Johnson was a three-year starter at St. Joseph's High School for Coach Keith Kurowski.   He was named Northern Indiana Conference Player of the Year as a senior and an All-NIC First Team member as a junior and senior. As a senior he earned IHSAA All-State Team Honorable Mention and is a member of the St. Joseph's 1,000-Point Club. During his senior campaign he posted averages of 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists.
Johnson was also a standout high jumper for the St. Josephfs track and field team and qualified twice for the regional championship.
