Women's basketball head coach Steve Bruce has announced that Kayley Baughman will join the Titan program beginning with the 2011-2012 season.

Baughman, a 5'7" guard from Mishawaka averaged 21.8 points per game during her junior season at Elkhart Christian High School, and through three years of high school play she sits at an even 1,000 points for her career and holds the school's single season (456) and single game (41) scoring records. She also led her team in scoring during both her sophomore and junior years and was named team MVP during those years.

In addition, Baughman was named to the IBCA Top 100 Underclass Showcase, as well as being named First Team All-Area by the Goshen News. She was also named an all conference player twice in the Northern Athletic Conference - Second Team as a freshman and First Team as a sophomore - before ECA became independent.

"I chose IU South Bend because I was initially interested in the dental hygiene program and the school is close to home," Baughman said. "I was drawn to the basketball program because everyone has a strong desire to win. I really liked the atmosphere I was able to experience on game day with the team. More importantly, I liked Coach Bruce's coaching style and how the team respects him. I also like the way the team gets along and how everyone treats each other.

"Our IU South Bend family welcomes a young lady who so clearly represents what we believe in," said Bruce. "Kayley is a character first person, talented and possessing a great work volume. She gives 100%, 100% of the time."

"I'm looking forward to being a part of a close-knit team that is willing to put in the work and has the will to win," Baughman said.

She also runs track and plays volleyball for the Eagles. On the track, she was named all conference in four events as both a freshman and sophomore and holds school records in five events. On the volleyball court, she was named first team NAC as a sophomore and has helped her team to three sectional titles.

In the classroom, Baughman is a 4.0 student and will study dental hygiene at IU South Bend.
