South Bend, IN- The IU South Bend men's basketball team lost a heartbreaking contest to Cardinal Stritch University 54-52 on Tuesday night at the Student Activities Center on the campus of IU South Bend. With the loss, the Titans drop to 2-5 on the season.
The Titans were in control the entire first half and took a 31-26 lead into the locker room thanks to some sharp-shooting by Steven Heatherly. CSU came out firing the second half and stepped it up on defense going on a 13-0 run and took a 36-31 lead with 14 minutes left in the contest.
The Titans battled back by gutsy play from Kyle Heatherly down the stretch. With the score tied at 52-52, the Wolves held onto the ball for the last shot and scored on a back door layup with 1.1 seconds left in the game and held on for a 54-52 victory.
The Titans registered three players in double figures. Kyle Heatherly led IU South Bend with 18 points and Steven Heatherly was perfect from beyond the arc finishing with 15 points on the night. Brad Kunce played a solid game for the Titans registering his first collegiate double-double. Kunce chipped in with 10 points and pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds on the night.
Pat Barron led CSU with 12 points and Ian Dobbe scored 9 points in the victory. The Wolves shot 22-of-53 from the field and committed just 12 turnovers on the night.
IU South Bend will play an exhibition game on Saturday when they travel to Eastern Illinois University. Tip time is set for 7:00 pm EST.
