Titans Let Lead Slip Away, Fall To CCSJ

Whiting, IN- The IU South Bend men's basketball led 44-37 with ten minutes left in the contest, but eventually fell to Calumet College of St. Joseph 57-51 on Tuesday night. With the defeat the Titans fall to 6-12 overall and CCSJ wins their fifth contest in a row and improves to 10-10.
With just ten minutes left in the contest, IU South Bend held a 44-37 advantage and seemed to have control of the game. However, a putback by CCSJ off a missed free throw cut into the Titan lead and seemed to be the turning point of the game as CCSJ rattled off six straight points and trimmed the lead to 44-43.
Wilfredo Escobar took control for CCSJ and tallied 16 second half points to finish the contest with a game-high 22 points. Escobar connected on 14-of-17 from the charity stripe in 38 minutes of action.
Sophomore point guard Alanzo Bass led the Titans with 13 points, connecting on 4-of-10 shots from the field. Junior Jake Berger poured in 12 points and pulled down four rebounds in the loss.
CCSJ heated up in the second half and connected on 9-of-16 shots from the field and 14-of-18 in the final 20 minutes. Besides Escobar's game-high 22 points, Antonio Hurt scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the victory. The Crimson Wave controlled the glass outrebounding the Titans 36-27.
The story of the night for the Titans was cold shooting from the field and the foul line. IU South Bend hit on just 14-of-47 shots from the field and 21-of-34 from the free throw line.
The Titans will be back in action on Thursday night when they host the Trojans from Trinity International University. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. at the Student Activities Center on the campus of IU South Bend.
