South Bend, IN- The IU South Bend men's basketball team lost to the University of Saint Francis 64-49 on Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Titans drop to 10-14 and 2-3 in the CCAC. The Fighting Saints improve to 19-5 and 4-1 in the CCAC.
Both teams started out cold from the field due to stingy defense from both sides. The Titans were held scoreless for the first four minutes, as Saint Francis jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. IUSB would score its first basket around the 14 minute mark by Junior Henry Smith.
The Saints would take control in the first half by shooting 4 of 8 from three point land and 8 of 10 at the charity stripe to build their lead to 28-17 at the half. The Titans shot only 29% from the floor in the first half. Junior Jake Berger helped the Titan cause by leading his team with 5 points, 8 boards, and 2 blocks in the first half.
In the second half, The Saints built their lead to 20 and never looked back. Saint Francis was led by two players who scored in double figures. Andrew Fair tallied 13 and Billy Hubly added 11 for the Saints, as they answered any hint of a Titan run. IUSB shot the basketball better in the second half, 45% from the field, but couldn't find their stroke from three as they finished 0-9 from beyond the arc.
The Titans statistical leader was Jake Berger who put up a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards. Berger also finished with 3 blocks and 2 assists. IU South Bend also was led by Henry Smith who finished with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Sophomore Steven Heatherly and Junior Brad Kunce each chipped in with 9 points.
IU South Bend will look to bounce back on Wednesday, February 9 as they welcome Judson University. Tip-time is set for 8 p.m.
