Men's Basketball - Wed, Nov. 16, 2011
IU South Bend
Cardinal Stritch University
Kyle Heatherly (Mishawaka, IN) scored a team-high 17 points, Ason Hacker (Bedford, IN) added 16 and Austin Rasche (Huntingburg, IN) and Steven Heatherly (Mishawaka, IN) chipped in with 14 and 12, respectively and the Titans held a 42-41 lead with just over 12 minutes to play, but IU South Bend (3-3) could not survive a Cardinal Stritch 25-7 run that covered nearly ten minutes as the Titans dropped a 78-65 decision on Wednesday night.
After a slow start that saw just ten points scored in the game's first six minutes, both offenses found their groove, with the Titans outscoring CSU 10-9 over the next three-and-a-half minutes, where Stritch found themselves with a 15-14 lead. From there, Kyle Heatherly picked up a lay-up off of a steal and an assist from Chris Beam (Borden, IN), giving the Titans a 16-15 edge and setting them off on an 8-0 spurt, capped by a Hacker triple that gave IU South Bend a 22-15 lead with eight minutes to play in the opening half.
The Titans held on to their edge for the remainder of the first half, with the Wolves pulling to within three on several occasions, but they couldn't get any closer before the break, as the Titans held a seven-point lead at the half.
Out of the half, CSU rattled off the first seven points to knot the contest at 32 before Rasche gave the Titans the lead back from the free throw line. The teams spent the next six minutes trading scores, giving IU South Bend their 42-41 lead with 12:14 to go.
The Wolves answered however, dominating the next ten minutes with a 25-7 run to take a 66-49 lead, and they held off a late rally by the Titans for the win.
The Titans return to action on Tuesday, November 22 when they host Purdue Calumet as the nightcap of a women's-men's doubleheader. The game is scheduled to start at 8:00 PM (EST)
