Chicago, IL- Steven Heatherly scored a team-high 15 points and hauled down 6 rebounds while teammate Chris Beam chipped in with 12 points, but the Titans (9-8, 0-1) dropped their conference opener to #3 Robert Morris University 70-55.
A slow start and seventeen uncharacteristic turnovers in the first 20 minutes of action cost the Titans. Heading into halftime IU South Bend trailed 36-19.
The second half was a different story. The Titans came out of intermission and shot an impressive 59% from the field and fought back against the Eagles. Heatherly and Beam combined hit on 9-of-14 shots from the field. However, senior point guard Diante Watkins stepped up when the Titans started to make their run in the second. The talented guard netted 20 points and dished out 7 assists in the victory as the Eagles improved to 16-1 on the season and notched their third victory in a row.
IU South Bend outrebounded the Eagles 38-34. Austin Rasche and Alanzo Bass each pulled down eight rebounds. Rasche chipped in with nine points on 4-of-8 shots from the field. The Titans finished the contest shooting 20-of-51(39.2%).
The men's team will return to action on Tuesday, January 17, when they host Calumet College of St. Joseph. Tip-off off is set for 8:00 PM (EST). A live video feed of the game will be available at www.iusbtitans.com.
