Kayla George (Peru, IN/Maconaquah) scored 14 points, while Ashley Carson (Winchester, TN/Franklin County) and Staci Funkhouser (McCordsville, IN/Mount Vernon) scored 11 and ten, respectively, but it was not enough as IU South Bend (8-12, 0-1) could not hold on to a late lead, dropping a 67-61 overtime contest to Holy Cross.

From the outset, the game was tight, with neither team able to grab a lead larger than four points until the Saints kicked off an 11-1 run that spanned the final seven minutes of the opening half to open up an 37-28 halftime lead.

The start of the second half was more of the same as Holy Cross extended their lead to as many as 13 in the opening minutes. The Titans answered, however, with an 11-0 run of their own, keyed by a pair of three-pointers and two free throws from George to pull back within a pair. The Titans would eventually knot the contest at 44, and again at 47, but they were unable to grab the lead until Funkhouser knocked in a triple from the top of the key to give them a 50-49 lead.

After Nichole Sly (Niles, MI/Niles) split a pair of free throws, George split a pair of her own to push the IU South Bend lead to three, and Emily Strilich (Valparaiso, IN/Boone Grove) made two charity tosses to give the Titans their largest lead of the game at 56-15 with 4:34 to play.

After the teams traded scores, the Titans once again found themselves ahead by five, this time with just two minutes to play. The Saints, however, scored the final five points of the regulation period to knot the game up and send it into the extra session.

The overtime period was all Saints, as they scored the first six points to jump out to a 62-56 lead, one they would not relinquish. The Titans were able to get to within three on another triple by Funkhouser, but they could get no closer, falling 67-61.

Strilich finished with 12 rebounds and Sly had six assists, while Lizzie Stapke (Highland, IN/Highland) added nine points, eight boards and four steals.

The Titans return to action on Wednesday, January 25, when they travel to Chicago to take on Roosevelt. Tip off of that game is set for 6:00 PM (EST) and the contest will be held at Attack Athletics.
