
South Bend, IN- Henry Smith scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down six rebounds while teammates Alanzo Bass and Kyle Heatherly chipped in with 13 and 12 points respectively as IU South Bend (12-10, 2-1 CCAC) defeated Saint Xavier University (16-6, 2-1 CCAC) 70-62 on Saturday afternoon in CCAC action.
The Titans came out of the gates clicking on all cylinders. Senior Henry Smith hit on 8-of-12 shots from the field in 26 minutes of actions while Bass and Heatherly hit on 10-of-21 field goals in the victory. IU South Bend also received a lift off the bench from Marcus Macellari. The power forward chipped in with six points and improves with each outing.
The Titans continue to play solid defense and held the high-powered offense of SXU to just 22 points in the first twenty minutes of action. "I was proud of how we competed defensively. This was a total team effort today and a good win against a solid team," said second year Head Coach Chad Tapp.
IU South Bend connected on 24-of-52 (46.2) shots in the contest and did a nice job protecting the ball committing just ten turnovers while forcing SXU into fourteen miscues.
Brad Karp led the Cougars in scoring by connecting on 8-of-15 shots from the field and finished the contest with 20 points. Ed Gilgenbach pumped in 11 points for SXU.
IU South Bend will return to the hardwood on Tuesday, January 31, when they host the Tigers from Olivet Nazarene University. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM (EST), and a live video stream will be available at www.iusbtitans.com.
