Emily Strilich (Valparaiso, IN/Boone Grove) scored a game-high 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while Lizzie Stapke (Highland, IN/Highland), Courtney Simspon (Nappanee, IN/NorthWood) and Nichole Sly (Niles, MI/Niles) all joined her in double figures with 14, 13 and 11 points, respectively, as IU South Bend (10-15, 1-4 CCAC) dispatched Judson 71-51 on Wednesday night.
The two teams started slowly, as neither team could find their touch in the early going, with the Titans managing just a 7-6 lead five minutes into the game. From there, the Titans slowly opened up their advantage, eventually pushing their lead to 14 by the break. Strilich starred in the opening period for IU South Bend, collecting a dozen of her points and six rebounds, helping them to pull away.
The second half opened much the way the first finished, with the Titans extended their lead to as many as 21 in the early going. The Eagles answered back, however, chipping away at the lead and closing to within 11 points with just over nine minutes to play. They would get no closer, however, as IU South Bend pushed the lead to 18 before Carson buried a triple from straight on to effectively seal the win.
Sly also contributed five assists to the Titans offense, while Stapke recorded five steals, converting them into lay-ups on three separate occasions.
The Titans return to the court on Saturday, February 11, when they host Robert Morris. The game will be part of the Pink Zone initiative, benefitting the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund to benefit the fight against breast cancer. All donations made at the game and proceeds will be donated. Tip-off of that game is set for 12:00 PM (EST), and a live video stream will be available at www.iusbtitans.com.
