Ashley Carson (Winchester, TN/Franklin County) connected four times from three-point range and led the Titans with 14 points, while Lizzie Stapke (Highland, IN/Highland) notched a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds and Leah Meyer (Goshen, IN/Northridge) chipped in with 11 more points, but it was not enough as IU South Bend (10-16. 1-5 CCAC) found themselves on the wrong end of an 18-2 run to end the first half - putting them down by 15 at the intermission - and could never recover, falling 62-52 at the hands of Robert Morris.
At the outset, the Titans controlled the flow of the game, scoring first and eventually opening up a 14-8 lead behind back-to-back triples from Carson. RMU answered, though, going on an 11-2 burst to take a 17-16 lead with eight minutes to play in the half. After the Titans scored the next basket, they went cold, scoring just two more points during the balance of the period, and falling behind 35-20 at the break.
Out of the half, the Titans showed signs of life, slowly closing the gap from 48-32 - RMU's largest lead of the game - to just five points at 52-47. During the run, Carson and Stapke would each connect on a pair of threes, willing IU South Bend back to within striking distance.
The Titans, however, could get no closer, as the Eagles connected on several late-clock baskets down the stretch, holding on for the 62-52 win.
In the loss, IU South Bend committed 25 turnovers and RMU was able to convert them into 24 points. The Eagles also outscored the Titans 22-12 in the paint.
Emily Strilich (Valparaiso, IN/Boone Grove) joined Stapke in double digits in rebounds, also recording ten.
The Titans return to action on Tuesday, February 14, when they host Roosevelt. Tip-off of that game is set for 6:00 PM (EST), and the game can be seen live at www.iusbtitans.com.
