
Chicago, IL- The IU South Bend men's basketball team fell to the Cougars of St. Xavier University 90-53 in CCAC action on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars turned the tables on the Titans as earlier in the year IU South Bend defeated SXU 70-62. With the victory, SXU improved to 20-8 overall, 5-3 in CCAC action.
Chris Beam led the Titans as he poured in a team-high 20 points (11-13 FTs) in the loss. Teammate Kyle Heatherly hit on 7-of-10 shots from the field in 29 minutes of action netting 14 points.
The Titans fell behind early and could not overcome the hot shooting of the Cougars. SXU took a 39-20 advantage into the break. Sophomore shooting guard Chris Beam scored 11 of the 20 first half points for the Titans.
SXU did not skip a beat coming out of the locker room as the Cougars scored 51 second half points and shot 32-of-51 (62.7) for the contest. Sophomore Brad Karp registered a double-double tallying game highs in points and rebounds in the victory for the Cougars.
IU South Bend struggled shooting the long ball connecting on just 3-of-23 from beyond the arc. The Titans, who hold opponents to just 61 points a contest, gave up a season high 90 points to the Cougars.
The Titans return to the hardwood on Tuesday, February 21, when they travel to Olivet Nazarene to take on the Tigers. Tip-off of that game is set for 8:30 PM (EST).
