The Titan men got back on the winning track tonight, ending a three-game losing skid with a steady-handed victory on the road over Calumet College of St. Joseph by a final tally of 58-56. The game was close throughout, but IU South Bend controlled the tempo, leading most of the game and going up by double figures in the second half. The Crimson Wave were not going to go without a fight, closing the gap slowly but surely over the final seven or eight minutes of the game, but in the end they ran out of time and the Titans left Whiting, IN with a much-needed victory.
IU South Bend was led in the victory by Chris Beam with 20 points and 5 rebounds and Alanzo Bass with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. As a team, the Titans shot 46% from the field for the game, including 60% in the decisive second half. The Crimson Wave got strong performances by Javon Robinson, who tallied 13 points in the loss, and Franqlin Gatson, who finished with 11 points of his own. CCSJ was forced into 16 turnovers and shot 44% from the field for the game.
The win improves IU South Bend to 7-5 on the year, including a 5-3 conference mark, good enough to put them in a tie with St. Francis (IL) for third place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. They are next in action on December 15 at 4pm as they travel on the road to face off against Judson College.
