There are halftime speeches and then there is whatever Head Coach Chad Tapp said to his guys at halftime yesterday. I, for one, don't know what it was but whatever it was, he should keep it in his back pocket for future use. After traveling to Judson University yesterday for a matchup against the Eagles, the Titans got off to a slow start, scoring just 17 points in the first half on 37% shooting to go into the intermission down 22-17. The second half, however, saw IU South Bend respond to the situation by exploding for 42 second-half points on blistering 63% shooting from the field to blast the home squad by a final score of 59-45. Along with the offensive fireworks, the Titans also played possessed defense on the other end, holding the Eagles to just 25% shooting in the second half, giving up a total of only 5 field goals. By game's end, IU South Bend finished off shooting 50% for the game to Judson's 33% and they dominated the glass, winning the battle of the boards by a total of 31-22.
IU South Bend was led by senior Steven Heatherly with 22 points on 7/9 shooting, including 4/5 from long-range, to go along with 7 rebounds. Chris Beam also contributed to the cause with 19 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. The Eagles were led in the defeat by Nick Morgan, who tallied 12 points in the losing effort.
For the year, the Titans improve to 8-5 and sit solidly in 3rd place in the CCAC with a 6-3 conference mark. They are next in action on December 18th at 7:30pm as they face off against Purdue University Calumet in the SAC. For those unable to attend, the game will also be broadcast LIVE at www.iusbtitans.com.
