The Titan men ventured out on the road tonight in need of one more win to secure the #3 seed in the upcoming CCAC tournament. Unfortunately, they ran into a Purdue University Calumet team not interested with making that path an easy win. In the end, the Titans couldn't hold a big early lead and the Peregrines secured themselves a home conference victory.
The first half saw IU South Bend jump ahead, leading by as many as 11 in the opening stanza. It just didn't last, as the home team closed the half on a 15-6 run to close the lead to just two at 31-29. The second half saw Purdue Calumet slowly take the lead and they managed to hold onto it once they got it as they caught fire from the field, shooting a hot 58% from the field for the game compared to just 37% for the Titans. The Peregrines got 31 points from their bench players, which ended up being a huge factor in the contest.
IU South Bend got 25 points and 8 rebounds from Austin Fox along with 13 points from Steven Heatherly. No other Titan scored in the double digits. Purdue Calumet had four players in double-figures, led by Martel Jackson with 15.
With the loss IU South Bend drops to 18-10 (15-7 CCAC) but they do hold on to third place in the CCAC. It makes their next game a huge one for the Titans, as they face off against the University of St. Francis on Wednesday in the SAC at 7:30pm. The Saints currently sit 1.5 games behind IU South Bend in the conference rankings. With a win the Titans would lock up third place in the conference tournament. The night will also be marked by the celebration of Senior Night as Alanzo Bass, Steven Heatherly and Kyle Heatherly are honored. For those unable to attend the game it will be broadcast LIVE at www.iusbtitans.com.
