The Titan men lost a heartbreaker tonight in the SAC on Senior Night, dropping an overtime game against the University of St. Francis by a final of 67-62. It was a tough-as-nails kind of game, with each team trading the lead back and forth several times. In the end, IU South Bend was outscored 12-7 in the overtime after the score was knotted at 55 after regulation.
The first half belonged to the Titans as they went into the half with a 30-26 lead after shooting 48% from the field and holding the visitors to just 32%. After the half, however, IU South Bend went ice cold, shooting just 22% in the second half and the overtime, while the Saints shot 39% in the second half and 43% in the extra stanza. USF also controlled the boards by a total of 45-38, including 17 offensive rebounds, which ended up being huge in this contest.
IU South Bend was led in the loss by Chris Beam with 16 points and Alanzo Bass with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Riley Stichter also contributed 7 points and 9 rebounds. The Saints were led by Chris Miller with 23 points and Billy Hubly, who shot 2/13 from the field but knocked down two huge three-pointers in the overtime and finished with 8 points. For the game IU South Bend shot 35% compared to 36% for the Saints.
With the loss the Titans drop to 18-11 (15-8 CCAC) on the year. With one game remaining in the regular season they are tied for third place in the conference with these same Saints. A win in the regular season finale, a road game against Trinity International, or a loss by St. Francis, who plays Olivet Nazarene, will lock up the third seed for the Titans. Their game against Trinity International is to be played on February 16th at 8:30pm.
