The IU South Bend men's basketball team lost to #7 NAIA DII Saint Xavier University (28-4 overall) 64-46 on Friday night in the semifinal round of the CCAC men's basketball tournament. The Titans (20-12, 17-8 CCAC) conclude the 2012-13 campaign by registering the first 20 win season in school history and finished third in the final standings of CCAC regular season league play.
Heading into Friday night's action, the Titans knew they were going to be in for a battle as SXU was riding a sixteen game winning streak. In conference play this year, the Titans split with the Cougars with each team winning on their home court.
IU South Bend grabbed an early 4-0 lead and at the 11 minute mark in the first half the two teams were tied at 12-12. From that point on, SXU would go on a 22-8 run of their own and took a 34-20 lead into the locker room. The Titans attempted to dig into the deficit in the second half, but in the end SXU had solid performances from their starters and registered three players in double figures.
IU South Bend Sophomore Austin Fox was perfect from the field connecting on all six of his attempts pacing the Titans with 12 points in the contest. Teammates Kyle Heatherly and Steven Heatherly each chipped in with 10 points apiece. Freshman Riley Stichter battled in the paint for the Titans scoring 8 points and grabbing four rebounds.
The Cougars were led by sophomore shooting guard Jack Krieger who scored a game-high 15 points hitting on 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Senior point guard Roosevelt Green tallied 13 points in the victory for SXU.
SXU will take on #2 NAIA DII Cardinal Stritch University (29-3) for the CCAC championship game. The match-up is expected to be a good one and tip-time is set for 4:00 EST at Cardinal Stritch
Titan Athletics would like to wish IU South Bend seniors Alanzo Bass, Kyle Heatherly and Steven Heatherly the best of luck in the future. Congratulations to the three of you on your memorable senior season! Go Titans!
