Do I have to provide a personal e-mail address?
You will need to have a personal e-mail address in order to log into OLA. If you do not have one there are many free e-mail services available via the Internet such as yahoo.com, google.com, hotmail.com, etc. When there is a change in the status of your application(s), we will notify you by posting that information to your online account. You may also review the status of your application in OLA using your log in information. As a convenience you will also have status information sent to you via this e-mail address.
What if I want to submit a resume?
OLA will allow you to either post a resume or complete an online application. The method that will be required will depend on the position for which you are applying. Some of our positions will also require additional information via a separate questionnaire.
What are supplemental questionnaires?
Supplemental questionnaires may be used as a secondary screening device to determine who is interviewed for positions. The hiring manager has designed the questions to elicit additional information about you that will assist the screening committee in identifying the strongest candidates for consideration. Applicants' responses to the questions are reviewed by committee members. Read each question carefully and relate your answer to what the question is asking. Provide specific examples that relate to the question if they will help demonstrate your knowledge, ability and experience with the content.
You will need to first download the questionnaire, complete, save and then upload the completed questionnaire in the cover letter section of the OLA when applying for a specific position.
How will I know that my information has been accepted for a particular position?
Upon completion of the various stages in the application process, you will receive acknowledgments on the screen that your information has been accepted.
What information should I include on my application?
You will be asked to provide personal information such as name, address, phone number, etc. You will also be asked to provide complete information about your education and previous employment, as well as contact information regarding your employment history and references. Each job posting will include information regarding what additional materials, if any, may be attached. To expedite the application process it would be very helpful to gather this information before beginning.
What is the deadline to submit an application?
Complete application materials must be entered into the online system by 11:59 p.m. on the evening of the posted closing date indicated for that position. For positions that are open until filled, complete application materials may be accepted until the position is filled, but those received by 11:59 p.m. on the posted screening date are assured consideration. It is the applicant's responsibility to make certain that his/her application is complete and that all requested materials are received by the deadline. No materials will be accepted outside, or in addition to, the OLA system.
When can I expect to hear anything regarding the status of my application/resume?
Once the deadline has passed a detailed review of all applications that meet the minimum requirements will be performed, and candidates will be selected for interviews. Interviews are not determined until the position closes and those chosen will be contacted via phone. Applicants who are not selected for an interview will have their status updated on the Web and in addition will be notified by e-mail. The process can take anywhere from two-four weeks after the closing date.
What can an applicant expect when selected for an interview?
The University will contact candidates to schedule an interview and at this time detailed information regarding the interview will be shared. Interviews are conducted by the hiring committee and/or hiring manager and usually last 45-60 minutes. As part of the initial screening process, a telephone interview may be conducted in some cases. Depending on the position, lengthier interview schedules may also occur.
Who can I talk to regarding the status of my application?
By logging into OLA you have the ability to check the status of your application. Hiring managers and /or screening committees are not available for direct contact regarding the status of applications.
Does IU South Bend conduct criminal background and sexual misconduct checks?
Yes, Indiana University conducts a variety of employment background checks, including criminal background and sexual misconduct checks on all final candidates for positions with the University. Employment is contingent upon information provided in the criminal background and sexual misconduct check.
