Rensselaer, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team wrapped up their preseason schedule with an exhibition game at NCAA Division II member Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer on Saturday evening.
The Titans jumped on the Pumas early, leading for the first nine minutes. SJC took the lead with just over 11 minutes to play in the first half and would not look back in the opening half. IU South Bend trailed SJC by six points at halftime.
Just over three minutes into the second half, the Titans would cut the Puma lead to just two points when Chris Beam (Borden, Ind.) scored a layup.
Adison Daub (Corunna, Ind.) knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to bring IU South Bend within one point with just over 14 minutes remaining in the game.
Trailing by two with 5:09 to play, Shane Cook (Elkhart, Ind.) gave the Titans the lead when he drained a triple with the assist from Austin Paul (Columbia City, Ind.). However, the Pumas would once again take the lead, and the Titans would not recover.
Jason Jordan (South Bend, Ind.) led the Titans offense scoring 23 points on 9-18 shooting. Chris Beam had a big night scoring 22 points, 11 of which coming from the charity stripe. Riley Stichter and Beacher Ward each pulled down 13 rebounds on the night, respectively.
The Titans will begin their regular season slate on Wednesday as they welcome Ohio Mid-Western University. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. at the Student Activities Center.
