South Bend, IN – Beacher Ward (Indianapolis, IN) turned in his first double-double on the season to help guide the Titans past the Brescia University Bearcats on Wednesday evening. The Titans shot a season-best 57% from the field and 62% from beyond the arc. The 90-77 victory snaps the Titans five game skid, and moves them to 2-5 on the year.
The contest remained close for the first few minutes of the opening half, but the Titans began to establish a lead that they would never give up for the duration of the game. Brandon Beam (Borden, IN) gave the Titans their first double-digit lead of the half when he knocked down a free-throw with 2:44 remaining in the half. Shortly following, Beam would knock down a triple to give IU South Bend their largest lead of the half, at 12 points.
Beam and Ward each had 10 points at the break, respectively. The Titans had the hot hand in the first half, shooting 64% from the field and 75% from three-point land.
The Titans continued to run in the second half, seemingly wearing down the Bearcats. Riley Stichter (Milford, IN) buried a triple with 13:31 remaining to give the Titans a 19 point advantage, their largest of the game. The Bearcats made a brief threat, cutting the IU South Bend lead to as little at eight points, but the Titans answered their call and finished the game on a 17-7 run to claim the 90-77 victory.
Along with Ward, three other Titans recorded double-figures including: Brandon Beam with 19, Zac Rea (Cambridge City, IN) with 10, and Stichter finished with 15. Mark White (Muncie, IN) dished out a team-high seven assists to go along with his nine points. Once again, the Titans got big play from their bench, as they accounted for 33 of the team's 90 points.
The Titans will have a six day layoff before they open up CCAC action against Holy Cross at the Student Activities Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
