South Bend, IN – The men's basketball team gave the Holy Cross College Saints all they could handle on Tuesday night at the Student Activities Center. However, the Titans efforts came up short as they suffered a 68-63 loss. IU South Bend struggled to connect from beyond the arc, shooting 5-of-21.
The first half remained close all the way up until the 6:44 mark, when the Saints opened up a 10 point lead with an 11-1 run. Showing a lot of resiliency, the Titans managed to come back and gain the lead, 30-29 that would last until the half.
As the second half got underway, the Titans would build a six point advantage and maintain their lead for the first seven minutes of the half. From that point on the game would go back-and-forth, trading buckets all the way until the final buzzer. Trailing by six with 35 second to play, Jason Jordan (South Bend, IN) converted a triple to keep the Titans in the game, but the Saints hit clutch free throws down the stretch to put the Titans away.
Jordan finished with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Chris Beam (Borden, IN) turned in a strong performance with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. As a team, the Titans forced 14 HCC turnovers and rejected five Saints' shots on the night.
The Titans return home to face Lawrence Tech on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
