Katie Hacker (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central HS) scored 16 points and Betsy Grogan (Battle Ground, IN/West Lafayette Harrison HS) added a dozen, but it was not nearly enough for the Titans to overcome Indiana Wesleyan as they fell 89-60 Tuesday night in Marion, IN.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 18-9 lead, but IU South Bend stormed back, coming within one point on several occasions. The Titans, however, were never able to get the lead during this stretch. After IWU pushed the lead back to double figures, and Ashley Hummer (South Bend, IN/Mishawaka Marian HS [Goshen College]) triple brought the halftime score to 44-37.
The second half was all Indiana Wesleyan, as they pushed their advantage to nearly 30 behind 22 points on 11-of-11 shooting from Elaine Hessel and 17 more from LeAnn Douglas, as the two starting posts players combined to miss just four shots.
Becca Hoefler (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso HS) added nine points for IU South Bend, while Tiffanie Graham (South Bend, IN/Riley HS [Southeastern Illinois]) handed out eight assists.
IU South Bend returns to the road Thursday night as they travel to Whiting, IN for a contest against Calumet College of St. Joseph. That game will tip off at 8:00 PM EST.
