South Bend, IN – The Titans welcomed the 17th ranked Robert Morris Eagles to the Student Activities Center on Saturday afternoon. The Titans hung around early, but the Eagles ran away with an 84-71 victory over the Titans. The Eagles shot a blistering 59% from the three-point line.
After the Eagles knocked down a triple to get on the board first, Jason Jordan (South Bend, IN) answered with a three of his own, followed by a pair of free throws from Brandon Beam (Borden, IN) to give the Titans an early 5-3 edge.
Playing with a heavy heart in honor of his mother, Joe Godfread (Elkhart, IN) entered the game off the bench to a standing ovation with 14:35 to play in the first half and scored on his first touch to bring the Titans within three points, 10-7. Godfread would finish the game with nine points, three rebounds, and three blocks.
The Titans kept the game within reach for the majority of the first half, but the Eagles would take their first double-digit lead with just over five minutes to play in the half, but the Titans would go on an 8-1 run capped off by a layup from Riley Sticher (Milford, IN) to make it one possession game, 31-28.
Mark White (Muncie, IN) hit a layup with three seconds left to send the Titans into the locker room trailing 40-34.
White led the Titans in scoring at the break with eight points off the bench. Godfread chipped in with five first half points. The Titans shot 38% from the floor in the opening half and was 10-12 from the free-throw line.
The Eagles opened up the second half with an 8-2 run to push their lead to 15 points. From that point on, the Titans could not find a cure for the up-tempo offense of the Eagles as they trailed by as many as 23 points.
White finished with a team-high 15 points going along with four assists and four rebounds. Beacher Ward (Indianapolis, IN) added nine points and eight rebounds, four of which were offensive. Stichter rejected two RMU shots to go along with five rebounds and two points. The Titans shot 42% from the field and 77% from the free-throw line.
The Titans will hit the hardwood again on Monday as they welcome the University of Saint Francis to the SAC. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
