Chicago, IL – After trailing the majority of the second half, the Titans fought back to escape Chicago with a 68-67 victory on the heels of a game-winning layup from Jason Jordan (South Bend, IN) as time expired. The win moved the Titans to 8-12 on the year and 4-6 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Jordan broke out of his scoring slump tonight as he led the Titans with 23 points on 10-22 shooting from the floor.
The game remained close in the early goings of the first half until Jordan gave the Titans a seven point lead when he drove to the basket and put in a layup while drawing a foul; Jordan finished the three-point play at the free-throw line.
Roosevelt captured the lead just over halfway through the frame when Kevin Priebe drained a triple to cap off an 8-0 Lakers run. The Lakers would continue to build on their lead as they went up 11 points as part of a 20-2 run.
The Lakers outscored the Titans 22-8 in the final 13 minutes of the opening half. Chris Beam (Borden, IN) hit his second three-point basket of the half to cut the Titans halftime deficit to seven points.
The Titans cut the Roosevelt lead to just one point at the 10:35 mark after Jordan turned a Mark White (Muncie, IN) steal into two points. An 8-0 run by the Lakers put them back up nine points with just over seven minutes left in the game.
With 5:50 left to play in the game, the Titans were trailing by 10 points, 59-49. However, the Titans quickly erased that deficit and got within one with a 9-0 run that ended with four straight points from Jordan. The Titans saw their first lead since the 8:28 mark in the first half when Brandon Beam (Borden, IN) drove the lane for a layup with the assist coming from his brother Chris with just over two minutes showing on the clock.
The Lakers hit eight free throws in the final three minutes, but needed to make nine as they left the door open for the Titans to steal a win on the road. The Titans did just that as they went the length of the floor and Jordan sank a jumper at the buzzer to give the Titans the 68-67 win.
The Titans shot 46% from the field and 73% from the free-throw line in the win.
The Titans will continue CCAC action as they travel to Trinity Christian on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. EST
