Notre Dame, IN – The Titans continued Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Holy Cross College, the Titans hung around but could not score the basketball late. The Titans suffered a 72-58 loss to the South Division leading Saints.
The Titans could not find an answer for the Saints' Brandon Evans in the early portion of the first half as he scored the team's first eight points and 14 of their first 20 as well as pulling down four rebounds, three of which were offensive. Jason Jordan (South Bend, IN) came out shooting as he connected on his first pair of three-point attempts of the night.
Trailing by as many as 11, the Titans got back within four points at 24-20 with less than six minutes to play in the half. Shane Cook (Muncie, IN) forced a HC turnover that turned into a fast-break layup to cut the Saints lead to two point, but Holy Cross answered with five straight points to stretch their lead to seven points.
The Titans would continue to hang around as they went into the half trailing 37-32. The Titans shot 46% from the field and converted on half (5-10) of their three-point attempts.
Jordan and White each scored nine points for the Titans in the first 20 minutes of action.
Evans finished the half with 21 of the Saints' 37 first half points.
The Titans opened up the second half shooting 2-of-8 in the first 6 ½ minutes. The Saints took advantage of the shooting drought from IU South Bend and went on a 12-4 run to extend their five point halftime lead to 49-36.
IU South Bend could not seem to find the basket and quickly went down 20, 59-39. With a pair of free throws from Jordan and a triple from Adison Daub (Corunna, IN), the Titans cut the Holy Cross advantage to 15 points, 59-44 with 6:33 showing on the clock.
The Titan offense continued to have trouble finding their range for the remainder of the game. They would get as close as 13 but that would be it for the Titans as they dropped their 14th game of the season.
White paced the Titans offense with 15 points while Jordan added 13. Joe Godfread (Elkhart, IN) added 10 points and four rebounds in the loss.
The Titans return home on Saturday and welcome the Peregrines of Purdue Calumet. Tip-off slated for 2:00 p.m.
