Joliet, IL – The Titans came back to take a late lead on the road Wednesday night, but IUSB could not cage the Fighting Saints as they escaped with a 77-72 victory over the Titans. IU South Bend shot the ball well, shooting nearly 52% from the field and 61% from long range.
Chris Beam (Borden, IN) got the Titans going early as picked up a steal on the first possession of the game and went the distance for the lay in to put IUSB on the board first.
Trailing by a point, 8-7, Jason Jordan (South Bend, IN) dropped in a three-point basket to give IU South Bend the lead back at 10-8.
Riley Stichter (Milford, IN) knocked down back-to-back triples and Jordan would later add a three-point basket to give the Titans their largest lead of the game, 29-21 with 8:25 left in the opening half.
USF would linger around for the majority of the half, but would end the half on an 8-0 run to even the game at 37 after the first half of action.
Jordan had the hot hand in the first half for the Titans as he finished with 15 points including 3-of-4 from deep. C. Beam added seven points while Stichter chipped in with six points and five rebounds.
Just when it looked like the Saints were going to run away with the game, the Titans go off on a 21-6 run to take a 63-59 lead with just over five minutes left to play in the game.
The Titans comeback would fall just short as the Saints defeated the Titans 77-72.
Jordan finished with a game-high 29 points in 29 minutes. C. Beam added 14 points and five assists while Beacher Ward (Indianapolis, IN) chipped in with 10 points and six boards.
The Titans return to action on Saturday as they travel to Calumet College of St. Joseph's. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
