(Indianapolis, IN) The IU South Bend men's basketball team lost to Trinity Christian College 77-72 in the consolation game of the 11th Annual Ken Elmendorf Memorial Tournament at Marian University on Saturday afternoon. The Titans fall to 1-7 overall on the season.
The Titans fought back hard in the contest but the clock was their worst enemy. With 15:38 remaining in the second half, the Titans were chasing a 20 point defecit and the Trolls seemed to be in control. However, the Titans got hot from the outside as junior Quinn Brooks connected on a 3-point jumper with 4:07 left in the game to put the Titans within four points of the Trolls, however, that was as close as the Titans would get.
Junior Ben Werner continues to turn in stellar-like performances as he scored a team-high 20 points and hauled down a game-high 17 rebounds. Werner shot 7 of 11 from the field and also dished out a team-high 6 assists on the afternoon.
IU South Bend had three other players register double figure points. Quinn Brooks scored 15 points and Terry Hill along with Josh Stoops chipped in with 10 points each.
Trinity Chrisitan had four players register double-figures as well. Leading the way was Will Bruinsma with a game-high 24 points. Jamie King poured in 22 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field for TCC.
Congratulations to IU South Bend's Ben Werner for being named to the All-Tournament team. Over the weekend, Werner tallied 40 points and 25 rebounds over a two game span.
Both the men's and women's team will be back in action on Tuesday as the Titans travel to Purdue Calumet. The women's team will tip-off at 5:00 pm CST and the men's game will follow.
