BERRIEN SPRING, Mich. – After nearly upsetting NAIA Division II No. 14 St. Ambrose last weekend, the Titans traveled to Andrews University to battle the defending United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Champions on Saturday evening. The Titans slipped by the Cardinals 65-63 in overtime on the heels of Javonte Young who hit two big three point baskets late in the game and Oosha Mitchell had a huge night, scoring a game-high 20 points, 13 of which came in the opening half.
With the Titans trailing 57-54, Javonte Young drained a three from the corner to even the game with 33 second left in the game. The defense forced Andrews into a turnover with 11 seconds to play, giving the Titans a chance to win the game. After a timeout, Young heaved a shot that hit the front of the rim, sending the game into overtime.
Andrews drew first blood in the overtime period, hitting a three to put them ahead 60-57, but the Titans answered with a 7-0 run capped off by an offensive rebound and put back from Jacob Foster with 1:15 left in the game. Andrews had a clean look at a three for the win with four seconds to go, but could not connect.
The Titans move to 2-1 on the season with tonight's win.
