SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Titans trailed by as many as 23 points, but managed to climb back into the game before falling to Indiana University East, 75-70 on Saturday afternoon at the Student Activities Center. The Titans' schedule does not let up as they host Bethel College on Tuesday night and travel to NCAA Division I, Valparaiso on Wednesday night.
After trailing 50-29 in the first half, IU South Bend slowly battled their way back against the Redwolves. The Titans cut the IU East deficit to single digits for the first time since the 9:05 mark in the first half when freshman Oosha Mitchell knocked down a triple with 7:16 left to play.
Mitchell came up huge again, draining another shot from long range, this time to bring the Titans within four points, 66-62. T.J. Benner connected on one-of-two free throws to make it a one possession game with 5:11 on the clock.
After the Redwolves went on a brief 5-0 run, the Titans answered back after Taylor Brooks found the bottom of the net from beyond the arc and Mark White cut through the defense for a layup, making it a three point game.
With time becoming the Titans' enemy, White once again drove down the lane and converted on another layup, while drawing a foul. After missing the free throw, the Redwolves cashed in on their opportunities to seal a 75-70 victory.
Javonte Young led all Titans scorers with 17 points while White added 13 points to go with seven boards. Mitchell finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
After shooting 55% from the field in the first half, the Titans held IU East to a dismal 21% in the second half.
