WHITING, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team picked up a huge Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on the road at Calumet College of St. Joseph on Tuesday evening. The 72-61 victory moves the Titans to 6-7 on the season and 2-2 in the CCAC.
Javonte Young scored a team-high 17 points and Oosha Mitchell added 16 for the Titans who were coming off a loss to Saint Francis on Saturday. T.J. Benner chipped in with 15 while Jacob Foster led the Titans with six rebounds.
The Titans weathered an early barrage of three point baskets from the Crimson Waves that put them behind 11-2. With an 8-2 run that was capped off by a 3-pointer from Benner, IU South Bend was right back in the game.
Taylor Brooks gave the Titans their first lead of the game when he knocked down his first triple of the game with 9:42 to play in the opening half.
The game continued to see saw for the remainder of the half and the score would be knotted at 34 after 20 minutes of action.
Mitchell had an efficient first half, finishing with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and 3-of-3 from the three point line.
Javonte Young scored 10 points in the first half on 4-of-6 shooting.
The Crimson Wave continued to hang around until the Titans went on a 14-4 run in the second half to open a 13-point lead with just over five minutes to play in the game. The Titans pulled away, extending the lead to 69-50 with a pair of free throws from Brooks, who finished with eight points and three rebounds.
Brian Brilmyer led Calumet College with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Up next for the Titans will be Purdue North Central on Friday night. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Student Activities Center.
