CHICAGO, Ill. – Oosha Mitchell (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday afternoon, however, it was not enough as the Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped with an 85-76 loss at Saint Xavier University.
Mitchell began the scoring for the Titans, draining a triple just a little over a minute into the contest. Riley Sticher boosted the IU South Bend lead to 5-0 with a pair of free throws and Jacob Foster (FR/Muncie, Ind.) followed up with a three pointer of his own to give IU South Bend an early 8-2 advantage.
A back-breaking 21-2 run that spanned nearly seven minutes quickly shifted the momentum in favor of Saint Xavier. IU South Bend answered with a brief 8-2 spurt that included five consecutive points from freshman Taylor Brooks (FR/Granger, Ind.) and was capped off by a three-pointer from fellow freshman Jeremy Jones (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) to bring the Titans within seven points of the SXU lead.
Saint Xavier hit a three with 26 second left in the opening half to take a 38-26 lead into the intermission.
The Cougars led by double-digits for the majority of the second half. Mitchell cut the SXU lead to single digits at the 10:14 mark when he tipped in a missed shot to cut the deficit to eight points.
It would not be until there was 47 second left when the Titans once again cut the Cougar lead back to single digits. The Titans got it down to six, but ran out of time.
Brandon Beam (JR/Borden, Ind.) joined Mitchell in double figures with 16 points.
The loss moved the Titans to 9-8 overall on the year and 3-3 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Up next for the Titans is Trinity International University on Wednesday night. Tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
