SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A barrage of three-pointers from Roosevelt University was the difference in a 72-62 loss for the Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team on Wednesday night. After hitting just one triple in the first half, the Lakers exploded for 11 in the second half.
Oosha Mitchell (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) led a pair of double digit scorers for the Titans with 15 points while T.J. Benner (FR/Mishawaka, Ind.) added 13 in the loss. Mitchell also pulled down 11 boards to record his fourth double-double of the season.
The Titans recorded 15 assists on 23 made field goals.
The game started fast as both teams scored eight points in the first five minutes of action. The Lakers used a 7-8 run to take a 15-7 advantage. After Mark White (JR/Muncie, Ind.) and Javonte Young (JR/Mishawaka, Ind.) each nailed a three-pointer, it was a one possession game at the 10:47 mark.
Jeremy Jones (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) came off the bench for the Titans and provided an immediate spark as he hit back-to-back triples followed by one from Mitchell and Benner to put IU South Bend in front, 32-25 with less than four minutes to go in the first half.
Roosevelt would score the final four points of the half and send the Titans into the locker room with a 32-29 advantage.
The Lakers found the hot hand at the intermission and drilled four straight triples coming out of the break, but the Titans weathered the storm and still led 46-45 halfway through the final frame.
Three's continued to pour in for the Lakers as they hit five straight in a four minute span to boost their lead to 57-53 with 4:40 left to play.
That would be all Roosevelt needed as they closed out a 72-62 victory.
