SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Javonte Young (JR/Mishawaka, Ind.) netted 20 points, including four 3-pointers on Saturday afternoon as the Indiana University South Bend men's hoops team was downed by Olivet Nazarene University by a score of 95-75.
The Titans honored junior Jordan Grant (JR/Gary, Ind.) on Senior Day, as he will be leaving in April to join the United States Air Force. Grant finished with a season-high six points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots.
IU South Bend played well against one of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference's top defenses as it shot 40 percent from the field and 45 percent from beyond the arc. Olive Nazarene caught fire against the Titans, shooting 62 percent from the field and 67 percent from long distance. The Tigers' Austin Davis drained a school record nine 3-pointers.
ONU owned the glass as they out-rebounded the Titans 41-18.
The 3's started flying early for the Titans as they hung with the eventual CCAC champion, hitting four consecutive triples to go ahead, 15-13 in the first five minutes of the opening half.
Trailing by five with less than six minutes to play, Jones netted the second of straight three's to bring the Titans within two points, 31-29. IU South Bend did not get any closer the remainder of the half and would go into the locker room facing a five-point deficit.
In the first minute of the second half, the Tigers scored the first six points to extend its lead to 11 points at 48-37.
Midway through the half, IU South Bend trailed by just nine points, but the Tigers exploded on a 15-0 to boost its lead to 24 points with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.
The Titans would not recover from the back-breaking run, falling to Olivet Nazarene for the second time this season.
The loss knocked the Titans out of contention for a CCAC tournament spot.
IU South Bend finished the season with a 12-18 overall record and a 6-13 mark in CCAC action.
