(Lake Wales, FL) After a week layoff the IU South Bend men's basketball team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon and lost to Warner University 77-52 at the Holiday Inn Express Invitational hosted by Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida. With the loss the Titans fall to 3-12 overall on the season and remain 1-0 in CCAC conference play.
Mark Comparato continues to shoot the ball well from the outside as he led IU South Bend in scoring with a team-high 13 points. He connected on 4 of 6 shooting from behind the arc and also registered two blocks on the afternoon. Teammate Ben Werner chipped in with 12 points and tallied a team-high 7 rebounds on the afternoon along with dishing out three assists. Werner scored all 12 of his points in the second-half after sustaining an injury that limited his minutes in the first half of play. Werner did his damage in 25 minutes of action.
IU South Bend fell behind early 10-0 and struggled shooting the basketball from the field in the loss. The Titans scored their first bucket of the game at the 14:55 mark on a running lay-up by Dan Kunde and trailed 35-18 at the half.
IU South Bend shot 35.2% from the field and misfired from the free throw line hitting on just 9 of 21 attempts. The Royals controlled the boards and outrebounded the Titans 44-30 in the contest. The 52 points scored today by the Titans was their lowest output of the season so far.
Derell Henderson led all scorers with 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Royals. Teammate David Westberry poured in 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. The Royals connected on 25 of 57 shots from the field including 5 of 14 from 3-point land.
The Titans will return to action on Wednesday as they square off against Houghton College (Houghton, New York). The contest will be played at Turner Athletic Center with a start time scheduled for 5:00 p.m. EST.
