SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Head Coach Brian Blondell has added two more junior college transfers to his first-year Indiana University South Bend Titan baseball team. The inaugural season for the Titans will begin in the spring and they will compete in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Justin Gierlowski of inked his letter of intent to play for Coach Blondell after two years at Kellogg Community College. Gierlowski, a high school graduate of John Glenn High School helped lead KCC to a fifth place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series. The 6'2" first baseman held a .391 with two homeruns and 10 RBIs.
Gierlowski was a standout at JGHS, where he was named the team's most valuable player for three consecutive years and earned all-conference accolades for four years.
Jesse Smith comes to South Bend by way of South Suburban College. Prior to SCC, Smith attended Griffith High School in northwest Indiana.
Smith pitched 29 innings for the Bulldogs, including three starts and a 2-1 record. He fanned 17 hitters while helping SCC to a 33-21 record in 2015.
He joins fellow South Suburban teammate Ryan Novak on the Titans' roster.
