SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend men's cross country team welcomes four new faces to its roster for the 2015-16 school year as announced by head coach Rob Carrasco on Tuesday. The four additions rounds out the roster at 11 runners.
Sam Miller prepped at La Porte High School where he earned seven letters in four years. As a freshman at La Porte, Miller lettered and helped lead the Slicers to the state meet. Sam continued to improve over his next three years, taking second place in the regional and earning the teams most improved award. In his final season at La Porte, another second place regional finish along with a sectional championship helped him earn the team's most valuable player award.
Sam intends to study history while at IU South Bend
Trevor McDonald also comes to IU South Bend from La Porte High School. McDonald earned five total letters including three in cross country and two in track. Trevor shaved 21 seconds off his mile time from freshman to junior year while also trimming nearly two minutes off his 5k time from freshman to senior season. Trevor was involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), earning the FCA's Athlete of the Year award.
Trevor plans to study music education while at IU South Bend.
Travis Shinsky will join the Titans from West Lafayette Jr. /Sr. High School where he earned eight varsity letters. During his final season at West Lafayette, Shinsky led the Red Devils to a state championship while being named to the All-Hoosier Conference squad, all-sectional, and all-regional teams.
Travis will major in nursing at IU South Bend.
Reid Stichter joins the Titans after a career at Wawasee High School where he earned letter in track and cross country. During his junior season, Reid ran a 16:43 5K which was good enough to qualify for regionals. One year later, he ran a 16:18 at the regional competition and qualified for the semi-state meet.
Reid will study criminal justice at IU South Bend.
The Titans will begin their inaugural season on September 5 at the Hokum Karem at Goshen College.
